Happy half term!

Year 11 are working diligently towards their exams, and their behaviour is continuing to be excellent.  Years 7 to 10 will commence their end of year assessments two weeks after half term and whilst we hope they do have a rest, we do want them to spend some time over the next week revising ahead of their assessments and examinations.  If any parents would like to discuss their child’s revision please contact the relevant head of faculty or head of year.   All teachers email addresses can found on the “contact me” section of the website.

Many congratulations to all those in Year 10 who have been appointed as a Prefect this week.   The full list of appointments is published later on in the Word.  The process was rigorous and the applications were well thought out and well presented at interview.  The students gave very compelling reasons for appointment.    We are proud to have such talented young people and we know these qualities will help them as they move into the next stages of their lives.  I would also like to thank Miss Johnson and Mr Blunt for all their efforts in this process.

We must all say a huge thank you to our outgoing prefects, who have undertaken every task set them in a mature and responsible manner.   They have been a credit to themselves, the school and their parents.

Our House challenge cup was held this week.  Forty one of our students took part with great enthusiasm.  Our overall winning house was Discovery – well done to all those who competed, and thank you to all those who supported.

It was a pleasure to see so many parents at the Year 7 parents’ evening last night.  We are very proud of our Year 7s.  They are making very good progress in their studies and bring such a positivity to our whole school community.

I have met with all Heads of Faculty in the past two weeks to discuss the progress of all students to date.  This is looking very pleasing.  The focus of the discussion was on the improvements being made in teaching and learning, particularly differentiation, the quality of extended writing in all year groups and the depth of challenge in lessons.    I have seen some excellent examples of work in English, Maths, Science, MFL and Humanities in all year groups.

I have also seen Aatikah A, Lilia J, Natalie A, Josh H and Elle S for golden books this week, which ranged from active participation, maths challenges to world championship dancing. All of these things demonstrate just how talented all of our students are.

Finally, the forecasters were predicting another glorious bank holiday, which now seems a little doubtful – so whatever the weather have a very enjoyable break.
