Its the start of the last half term....

Its the start of the last half term....

Year 11 are coping very well with the gruelling GCSE programme.  The end is in sight for many now!

My senior team and I have visited lots of lessons this week during our latest round of “Evaluation of Learning”.  Students and staff are working hard on revision in preparation for the end of year assessments and examinations in a week’s time.   We recently completed a marking and assessment trial, with a teacher from every department taking part in order to identify the best ways of helping students improve their work.   Students have responded very well to the detailed feedback they have been given on key pieces of work.  Their books clearly show tangible improvement.

Our newly appointed prefects have now had their blazers embroidered and look very smart.  They will commence their duties in July, following a period of training and their end of year exams.

Mrs Hughes gave a thought provoking assembly on the use of plastics and their impact on the environment.  We are committed to reducing the amount of paper and waste in school, and continue to explore ways of helping the planet!

Finally, in July we will be rolling out a new initiative called “Show my Homework”.   We are very excited about this innovative system which will allow the students to access their homework wherever they are, and for you, as parents, to see what has been issued.   Once rolled out in July, all homework set from that date will be available online.  The purpose of commencing this project in July is to ensure that any technical or training issues will be rectified prior to the start of the new academic year in September.   Currently the “behind the scenes” set up has commenced and teachers are receiving their training.   Nearer the time of introduction the students will be shown how to access the system.  Full login details and instructions will also be sent to parents/guardians.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend.
