Governors' Update

We then reviewed our committee structure and the associated Terms of Reference.  For this year we will have two full governing body meetings per term as previously and have introduced a new Scrutiny committee which will look in more detail at performance and monitoring all aspects of school data. Our pay committee will continue to oversee staff performance and we have agreed various specific individual governor roles focussing for example on impact of pupil premium, training, finance etc.

As Governors, we have our own action plan, linked closely to the School Improvement Plan and that was reviewed for the new school year. We had an external advisor from the National Governors Association review our working practices last term which proved very useful in the development of our plan. Some of the actions we identified include improving contact with parents and the wider community as well as reviewing our own ways of working and  ensuring we have evidence recorded of our impact on the school as a whole.

We were given an preliminary overview of the exam results from last year’s Year 11. As always, despite being able to see what our students achieved, we will not get the final ratified results and comparison to the national figures until nearly Easter. We also looked at the latest update of the School Improvement Plan for 2018/19, identifying which of us was going to link to which part of the plan.

We set our strategic vision for the school in the future following discussions last term and work is on-going to populate that with success criteria and develop an action plan as part of school improvement work.

We reviewed a number of school policies, as we do at each meeting on an annual cycle. This time it was teacher appraisal,  leave of absence and school uniform.

The Governing Body undertook a skills matrix last term and have identified that we could do with more expertise on financial management and property/estate management. Are any of you interested in joining our team, especially if you have such experience from your day job? If so do get in touch with Lisa Edwards, our Clerk, on 0121 746 5054 or ledwards@lighthall.co.uk.  We really would like to hear from you.
