The subject is ideal for students who enjoy the practical side of Technology. Students will work with a range of equipment and processes using resistant materials (wood, metal, plastic and SMART materials) to produce quality products. These could include Jewellery, Storage units and Mood lighting. This course is designed to develop an awareness of the nature and significant importance of Design and Technology in a rapidly changing society. It enables students to develop their application of knowledge, skills and understanding of Resistant Materials within an overall design and make based approach. This course combines practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices, including; CAD/CAM utilising ICT software will be used to achieve success and will assist them in their future career paths. A GCSE would enable students to advance their skills in associated college courses such as; Graphic Design, Architecture and Interior Design.
