KEY COURSE INFORMATION

Child Development is a very popular subject in KS4. It includes the study of conception, care of the pregnant woman, birth, every aspect of child care and development and many other aspects of modern life.
The Examining body is AQA.
The Controlled assessment is 60% (20% short task, 40% Child Study).
The examination is 40%

  • Functions of hormones and body changes in puberty – male and female menstrual cycle, fertilisation and conception.
  • Methods of contraception advantages and disadvantages, pre-conceptual care, reduction of risks STIs, smoking, alcohol, multiple births and complications, infertility and possible solutions.
  • Development of embryo and fetus, baby’s support system.
