  • Different types of business ownership (sole trader, franchise, partnership, ltd and p.l.c.), the advantages and disadvantages of each including real life examples.
  • What is enterprise and what skills does someone need to have to set up their own business.  Real life examples like Lord Allen Sugar, Gordon Ramsey, David Beckham, etc.  Will all be looked at and analysed.
  • You will learn how business get their stock, how do they bring it into the UK or out of the UK, and what legislation is there.
  • You will learn how to get the best out of your work force, how do you choose who to hire – what is the process, how do you motivate them and which motivation theories do you use.

  • You will learn why marketing is important to a business.
  • You will learn how to conduct market research, the different methods of market research and the difference between primary and secondary research.
  • You will learn what the marketing mix is and how businesses use the four elements when they have a product.
  • You will learn about different methods of promotion, what the advantages and disadvantages of each are and how does a business decide which to use.

  • You will learn how to produce a business plan, what the different elements of one are and how to fill it in.
  • You will be given a scenario of a new business and you will need to decide what resources the business is going to need, how much they will cost and where they are coming from.
  • Learn how to pitch your ideas to a panel – Dragon’s Den style.
  • Learn how to evaluate your work and know what you need to improve on in the future.

  • You will learn about the reasons why someone sets up their own business both the financial and non-financial reasons and what the risks of failure are.
  • You will learn how to produce a business plan, what the different elements of one are and how to fill it in.

  • You will decide what resources your business needs and find out how much it will cost to source them and where they will be sourced from.
  • You will present your business idea to a panel of experts who will assess your business model and give relevant feedback.

  • Research different taxes and the national insurance for the UK.
  • Learn the reasons why businesses keep financial records, which ones they have and how they maintain them.

Identify and research a project.
Develop a project plan.

  • You will come up with 3 different ideas and evaluate each one before producing model and plan for one of them.
  • Work as a team to carry out a business venture such as making and selling something.
  • You will present your business plan to a panel of experts – dragon’s den style.
  • Produce a detailed self-evaluation of what you have done and how you could improve.
