KEY COURSE INFORMATION

Product Design Welsh Board GCSE

Design and Technology in Product Design is a recently developed GCSE course within the suite of GCSE specifications offered by the WJEC. The course provides opportunities for students to apply aesthetic, moral, social, economic and industrial awareness in their design work. Students are encouraged to use a range of communication skills, including verbal, graphical, ICT and modelling skills, to help their thinking and their ability to take action in the process of designing

Plastics uses and characteristics. To design and develop an acrylic maze ruler using CAD/CAM.

Develop a variety of designs and select one to produce a prototype.

To create a mood light with LED strip light.

  • Use a range of materials and processes to create a simple bedside/desk light.
  • CAD/CAM, machine router.. Variety of materials, processes and techniques used with wood.

Wooden Speaker Project.
For a phone or MP4 player.

  • Exploded isometric drawing.
  • Use of CAD to develop the speaker.
  • Orthographic design.
  • Scale using CAD program.

Controlled Assessment. 60% of the GCSE grade will be obtained through completing the design brief set by the WJEC examination board.
