18 BEFORE 18

Welcome to the 18 Before 18 Enrichment Passport!

Here at Light Hall, we believe in providing our students with enriching experiences that extend beyond the classroom. The 18 Before 18 – Enrichment Passport is a unique initiative designed to encourage our young people to step outside their comfort zones, explore new opportunities and build essential life skills before they reach adulthood.

This passport is a record of personal challenges, skills development and extracurricular activities that we believe will shape our students into well-rounded, confident individuals ready for their futures. Through the 18 Before 18 enrichment passports, students are invited to engage in a range of enriching experiences that are carefully crafted to broaden their horizons, foster personal growth and prepare them for life beyond school.

What is the 18 Before 18 Enrichment Passport?

The 18 Before 18 Enrichment Passport is a collection of 18 unique activities, experiences and goals that each student should aim to complete before they turn 18. These experiences are designed to inspire creativity, resilience, social responsibility, leadership skills and helping students to gain a greater understanding of the world around them.

The passport includes activities like:
  • Community service projects to give back and make a positive impact.
  • Cultural experiences that encourage a deeper appreciation of diversity.
  • Outdoor adventures that build confidence and resilience.
  • Skill-building workshops in areas such as cooking, budgeting and communication.
  • Reading challenges to broaden knowledge and develop a love for learning.
  • Educational trips and visits that enhance learning through real-world experiences and exposure to new ideas.

By participating, students will not only develop new skills but will also create lasting memories and experiences that will stay with them long after they graduate.

Why is it important?

The 18 Before 18 initiative is designed to give students a balanced approach to learning that goes beyond academic achievement. By completing these activities, students will:
  • Grow personally and socially through hands-on experiences.
  • Develop critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and time management.
  • Build a sense of responsibility by contributing to their community and the wider world.
  • Gain confidence and independence in preparation for the transition to adulthood.

How Can Parents and Carers Get Involved?

We believe that parents and carers are key to the success of this initiative. You can support your child by:
  • Encouraging them to take on new challenges and explore new interests.
  • Helping them to set personal goals and track their progress.
  • Celebrating their achievements, both big and small.
  • Discussing the skills and experiences gained from each activity.

How Do Students Get Started?

Students will receive their Enrichment Passport. Each activity has a designated section in the passport where they can log their experiences, reflect on what they’ve learned and collect any evidence (like photos, certificates or reflections) to document their journey. These experiences are designed to be spread across all years.
