Blog No. 11 – Thinking about getting a family dog?

  • There are many different breeds of dogs with lots of different traits, sizes and looks.

Here are the top 10 family dogs in 2020;

  • Golen Retriever
  • Beagle
  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  • Labrador Retriever
  • Basset Hound
  • Brussels Griffon
  • Boston Terrier
  • Pug
  • Bernese Mountain Dog
  • Bulldog

The most important thing when choosing a new family member is to do your Homework on the breed, there is lots of information available on the Internet, speak to people who already have one and if you can speak to a Vet as some pure breed dogs do have Health Issues.

How much to buy the puppy?, how much do they eat?, do they need professional grooming?  how much is it to insure your new family member, as Vets bills can be really expensive (there isn’t an NHS for Pets)?, how big will they grow, how many times a day do they need to be exercised and who will walk your dog when you are at School?

Your Dog will need injections, Flea and Worm treatments, a collar with a tag with your contact details on and don’t forget you will always need to carry poo bags….

You also need to ensure that you train your dog properly, there are many places that offer puppy training, you will find the classes helpful and are mostly about training you! so you can be the best owner you can be for your dog.

We went to Solihull Dog Training Club, they were really nice and are all enthusiastic volunteers.  They offer Puppy classes and you can both progress to Gold Classes.  There are many other clubs in your area.

Though buying a new puppy is very exciting, your cute puppy will grow into a larger dog and will be part of your family for many years so make sure you make the right choice.

There are also thousands of unwanted dogs and maybe your new special friend will be one of them just waiting for you to find them.

This is where we found Molly a mixed breed dog and my doggy best friend.
