Headteacher Update 11.09.20

So we can come to the end of our first full week of teaching.   It has been so wonderful to see all our students engaging in their learning. I have been really impressed by the way in which students and staff are rapidly adapting to the changes.  Everyone is working very hard.

This week hasn’t been without its challenges and I thank you for your support.  It is likely that in the current environment these changes will continue to occur and I am grateful for the everyone’s immense resilience and flexibility in their response.  We share information with you as rapidly as we can, so do please continue to check your email regularly.  We try to keep this to a minimum so that we don’t bombard you!   We also share our information on our news page of the website.

Should our students need to self-isolate we have placed all year group work on our website.  The link is:  https://www.lighthall.co.uk/isolation-work-years-7-11/

After our ‘Fun Friday’ challenges and problem solving activities in the first week, the winners have been announced. Well done to all students for their active participation and competitive spirit. For Miss Johnson’s Big Quiz, the winners drawn out of a hat were Manvir L and Aryan R in Endeavour, Year 7. For Mr Cooney’s ‘Build a Structure’ competition, the winning pair drawn was Tegan W and Sennen C in Atlantis, Year 9. Ms O’Brien’s Duos game saw students across all year groups battle it out to score the highest points. Lillie P and Katy D in Discovery, Year 11, won with 57 points. All winners will be presented with their £10 Waterstones vouchers next week. For the final Blogging competition, all students still have time to submit their entry to Mr Williams at jwilliams@lighthall.co.uk to reach the next voting round. Congratulations to all!

Finally, I am sending an important letter to your email accounts today regarding changes of school timing and wearing of face coverings due COVID restrictions.   It is also attached to this edition of the Word and in the COVID section of our website.   Whilst students are exempt from the “rule of 6” when in school, I would be grateful if you could remind them of their responsibilities regarding social distancing when out and about in the community.

Thank you again for all your support and have a restful weekend.
