Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the start of the new Spring term.  Everyone has settled back into school very nicely and it is lovely to see all our students back after the particularly virulent bout of illness before Christmas.  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Hackett, subject leader for Music.

As part of our Life Ready weeks, we have welcomed a number of parents into school to deliver presentations about the world of work, transferrable skills, and to give insights into different professions. So far, students have had talks on careers in: training and development, human resources and law. Thank you to the parents for giving up their time. We have also had two STEM enterprise days for the year 7s, where they were tasked with devising and building a hand wash system to help ‘stop the spread’ of infectious diseases for Kenyan school children. Visitors from the STEM industries supported the event: a previous BBC engineer, an HS2 Project Manager, and the Managing Director of IPG. Well done to all students who participated and to the winning designs, which will be revealed shortly. Finally, year 8 students had a talk today from the Director of Sales of Hogarth’s Hotel and President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce. Students were very interested to learn about the hospitality industry and had many excellent questions to ask.  We are very much looking forward to next week’s life ready week.

Best wishes for the weekend.
