Admissions FAQs

The deadline to apply for a place in September 24/25 is 2nd February 2024.

However, if you are interested in submitting an application after the published deadline this is still possible. For information on late applications please email sixthform@lighthall.co.uk.

Light Hall offers a range of A-Level courses for you to study. Please visit the A-Level subjects page here for a list of courses, a bit about what each subject involves and the entry requirements for study.

We also offer the EPQ (academic studies) course, which all Year 12s will have the opportunity to complete. This involves learning and practicing key skills you will need at university and in the workplace including academic research and writing, referencing and time management. This course gives you the freedom to research a topic of your interest in depth, not related to your usual studies and can lead to discovering your future career path!

Normally, in Year 12 you will choose 3 A-Level subjects to study. A-Level Further Mathematics and A-Level Chinese are also available as an additional A-Level for suitable candidates. An alternative fourth A-Level may be studied by the most-able students and those preparing to apply for university courses with specific requirements.

Please visit the A-Level Subject page for information on the specific requirements for 24/25 entry.

Yes. You will be invited to attend a short interview here at  Light Hall with Mr Brookes, Head of Sixth Form. This is nothing to worry about, it is a chance for you to ask any questions you have and to discuss your subject choices to ensure you’re aiming for the best programme of study for you.

Interviews will take place between January and May. Invitations to interview will be sent via email to the address used to register the account and to any parents/carers listed on the application.

Before interview – If you change your mind about your subject choices after submitting your application but before your interview, don’t worry, you can discuss any changes you’d like to make during your interview.

After interview – If you change your mind following your interview and offer of place, don’t worry, there may still be an opportunity to change your course before, or at enrolment, subject to entry requirements and course availability. Please email sixthform@lighthall.co.uk with details, if you believe you’d like to change your subject choices.

All offers we make to students are a conditional offer of place. This means that you need to meet our requirements in order to enrol with us. This includes the general entry requirements, a suitable reference from your school and the specific subject requirements. It is important to know and understand what grades you need to achieve in order to be able to study your chosen subjects. Information on subject requirements can be found here and will be discussed at interview.

Enrolment takes place on GCSE results day on 22nd August 2024. Once you receive your GCSE results you will need to log in to your account to fill out your enrolment form. Much of this form will already contain details you provided when you applied so won’t take long.

All students will be invited to attend the Sixth Form on results day (10am-12noon for internal students and 12noon-2pm for external students) to confirm their place and discus their programme of study with members of the sixth form team, where appropriate. External students will be required to bring evidence of their GCSE results.

Students who have not quite met the entry requirements will discuss their ‘Next Steps’ with Mr Brookes on enrolment day when they visit the Sixth Form.

There may be an alternative combination of subjects that you could study.

If you have a pre-planned holiday or other important event that will prevent you from being able to attend enrolment on 22nd August please email us at sixthform@lighthall.co.uk.

Attending on enrolment day is an important part of the offer process. If you have not discussed other arrangements with us prior to enrolment day, we may not be able to hold your place and/or subject choices, so please get in touch as soon as you can.
