Admissions FAQs

The deadline for applying for September 2026 is Friday 13th February 2026. We will continue to accept and review applications after this date; however, they will be classed as ‘late’ and should we be oversubscribed, we will offer places to on-time applications first.

Light Hall offers a range of A-Level and Level 3 courses for you to study. Please visit the A-Level subjects page here for a list of courses, a bit about what each subject involves and the entry requirements for study.

We also offer the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) course,  which is equivalent to half an A-Level and is studied in Year 12 only. This involves learning and practising key skills that you will need at university and in the workplace, including academic research and writing, referencing and time management. This course gives you the freedom to research a topic of your interest in depth, which is not part of your curriculum studies and can lead to discovering your future career path!

Normally, in Year 12, you will choose 3 A-Level subjects to study. A-Level Further Mathematics and A-Level Chinese are also available as an additional A-Level for suitable candidates. An alternative fourth A-Level may be studied by capable students and those preparing to apply for university courses with specific requirements.

Please see the admissions policy at the bottom of this page for the general and specific entry requirements.

Yes. You will be invited to attend a short interview here at  Light Hall with Mr Brookes, Head of Sixth Form. This is nothing to worry about, it is a chance for you to ask any questions you have and to discuss your subject choices to ensure you’re aiming for the best programme of study for you.

Interviews will take place between January and May. Invitations to interview will be sent via email to the address used to register the account and to any parents/carers listed on the application.

Before interview – If you change your mind about your subject choices after submitting your application but before your interview, don’t worry, you can discuss any changes you’d like to make during your interview.

After interview – If you change your mind following your interview and offer of place, don’t worry, there may still be an opportunity to change your course before, or at enrolment, subject to entry requirements and course availability. Please email sixthform@lighthall.co.uk with details, if you believe you’d like to change your subject choices.

All offers we make to students are a conditional offer of place. This means that you need to meet our requirements in order to enrol with us. This includes the general entry requirements, a suitable reference from your school and the specific subject requirements. It is important to know and understand what grades you need to achieve in order to be able to study your chosen subjects. Information on subject requirements can be found here and will be discussed at interview.

Enrolment takes place on Thursday 20th August which is also GCSE results day.

Details of how to enrol will be provided to all applicants before the end of the academic year.

There may be an opportunity to enrol after GCSE results day, if spaces are still available. Applicants must contact the Sixth Form Office as soon as possible if they would like to do this.

Students who have not quite met the entry requirements will discuss their ‘Next Steps’ with Mr Brookes on enrolment day when they visit the Sixth Form.

There may be an alternative combination of subjects that you could study.

If you have a pre-planned holiday or other important event that will prevent you from being able to attend enrolment in August please email us at sixthform@lighthall.co.uk.

Attending on enrolment day is an important part of the offer process. If you have not discussed other arrangements with us prior to enrolment day, we may not be able to hold your place and/or subject choices, so please get in touch as soon as you can.

Taking place on Wednesday 1st July, our Transition Day is for all of our Sixth Form Applicants.

There will be opportunities to learn about our enrichment offer, ask our staff questions and go home with lots of resources to support your transition to Year 12.

Lunch will be provided and students will get full use of the Sixth Form facilities at break times.

It’s set to be an engaging and informative day and we can’t wait to meet our hopeful new Year 12 students.

To attend our Transition Day, you must have received and accepted your offer of place.

Then, log in to your application account (lighthall.applicaa.co.uk) and complete the ‘Taster Day’ form. The form only takes a couple of minutes to complete and is compulsory.

We will send confirmation to all students who have confirmed their attendance shortly before the event.

Please email sixthform@lighthall.co.uk with any questions.
