As part of the Go4Set Engineering scheme, 12 Light Hall students were invited to take part in a behind the scenes tour of New Street station led by one of Network Rails design engineers. The trip was designed to highlight the role of engineers in the rebuilding of the station and the Grand Central complex.
The tour included a visit to the control room of Birmingham New Station, where the participants were shown how the tracks in the vicinity of New Street are controlled and monitored.
Two students were also invited to make the platform announcements for two Scotland bound trains, passengers were expertly informed of all the intermediate stops! The students will shortly be showcasing the work they have completed during the engineering scheme at the Ricoh arena on the 25th of June.
