Life Ready, STEM and Careers…

Our second Life Ready week has drawn to a close, and once again we have welcomed parents into school to deliver presentations this week, these included a previous Light Hall student!  Students have had talks on careers technology, engineering, project management and the aerospace industry. Thank you so much to the parents for giving up their time and being an inspiration to our young people.

We have also had two STEM enterprise days for the year 9s, where they were tasked with devising and building a machine that can transport tomatoes from mountainous regions down to lower ground, a challenge faced by Nepalese tomato farmers. Visitors from the STEM industries supported the event: two visitors from the Environment Agency and a project engineer from WMG – Coventry University. Well done to all students who participated and to the winning designs.   We wish all students good luck with their careers aspirations and endeavours and, as ever, we are here to fully support them.

Our year 10 students have undertaken mock interviews with a variety of employers.  They were greatly complimented on their confidence and ability to articulate their ideas.   Well done to year 10.  We are very proud of you.

I have met with Heads of Facultys and Subject Leaders to discuss the progress being made in the curriculum.  We looked at a whole variety of books and work from year 8 and 10.   Our students are clearly working hard.  I was particularly impressed by the way that so many students are taking on board the knowledge recall starter activities in their lessons and are demonstrating that they are gaining more knowledge and remembering more.

Work has started on preparing for our end of year production of a Midsummer Night’s Dream.  We are all really looking forward to it.  So many students are involved!  Do be sure to put the date in your diary.  (8th & 9th July).

Finally, we are collating all the responses from the uniform consultation and will be able to tell you more next week.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend
